The thought of Unmanned Aerial Blimps has been perfected and it certainly makes sense in areas that have been devastated by wars, natural disasters or lightening storms and there is now telephone service. Now, with 3G wireless technologies scientists and research folks are putting cell towers into balloons and then opening up all the signals to relay from the Blimp. Meaning FEMA, rescue efforts and first responders will have instant communication.

It also means that these relays can help citizens move back into such areas sooner and have communications immediately while power crews can concentrate on power lines, water lines and more crucial stuff first. Makes a lot of sense right? Indeed and there are many other uses too.

Consider if you will a huge rodeo in town, state fair or Super Bowl, millions of people in the area for a few days or a weekend. Simply put the extra capacity into the air over the event and everyone has communication. And since those whose cell towers are used they will get paid to do this and be happy to fly their robotic blimp for wireless communication over head and everyone is so very happy.

Modern technology and robotic systems keep getting better and this helps our civilization run better, more efficiently and at full capacity without disruption and hardship. We should be thanking all the fine research going into such projects to help our society meet its needs. Consider all this in 2006.
